Rambling 1
For those of you that know me, you are already well aware of my huge commitment and belief in my family as a top priority. I believe if I can stay healthy with my family, then I will be a better principal. Well, anyway, I was showing off my web site to my oldest daughter, Delaney, a first grader in the Wake County Public School System. Plus, what better way to introduce 21st Century literacy and writing to my daughter then to let her see me work on a web page! So, my rambling to all of you is that reading with your child in multiple forms, especially web sites and blogs is important.
Currently, our fifth graders are discussing appropriate resources for research. I think that it is important to show your children how to determine which web sites are valid. This exercise with my daughter is showing her that anyone can put information on the web. Therefore, it is important to teach children that some information on the world wide web is misinformation and some is accurate. It is the child's job to figure that out when researching. Hopefully, Delaney will see that since her daddy can create a web page and I say crazy things to her all the time, she better check her sources for validity when doing web research! Until next time...
